Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled

The Chinese Methodist Church in Malaysia started its caring ministry for the disabled in 1993. Two years later, the first Beautiful Gate Disabled People Caring Centre was established in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Subsequently, three other centres were set up in Kepong (Kuala Lumpur), Kampar (Perak), and Seremban (Negeri Sembilan). There are also two Group Home established in Belakong for our ex-trainees to live independent lives.

Our goal is to enhance the quality of life of people with disabilities, and assist in their total integration into mainstream Malaysian society. This is achieved through mutual support, advocacy, personal skill development and campaigns to raise public awareness.

Our Services include:- Skill Training Services, Social Work Services, Educational Services and Mobile Therapy Services

Damai Disabled Persons Association of Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan

This is a non-profit organization run by a group of disabled persons to provide people who have disabilities with the necessary skills to be independent. The association, which was set up in 1989 now has a total of 79 members, provides counseling, basic communication skills training, language training, computer training and also helps disabled people look for jobs.

It also provides advice such a medical advice to the disabled and other advice such as how to obtain a driver’s license, how to modify a wheelchair to suit one’s needs, the objective always being to help disabled persons to be independent.

Malaysian Care (Services for People with Special Needs)

Malaysian Care is a non-profit Christian organisation committed to serving the poor and needy in Malaysia, irrespective of race or religion. The Service for People with Special Needs supports and trains people with learning difficulties by providing:

National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM)

NASAM (National Stroke Association of Malaysia or Persatuan Kebangsaan Angin Ahmar Malaysia) is a non-profit organisation founded six years ago in November 1996 by Janet Yeo to help Stroke survivors cope with the trauma of stroke and to provide rehabilitation facilities to help them return to a normal life as quickly as possible.

NASAM's Mission
To inform the public that there is Life after Stroke through proper rehabilitation.
To educate the public on stroke prevention.

NASAM's Activities
Group therapy sessions are conducted from 10.00am - 12.00 pm and from 2.00 -
4.00pm Monday to Friday at NASAM House, Petaling Jaya.

We provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. These
sessions are conducted by trained therapists assisted by volunteers.

Excursions and trips to various places of interest are also organised regularly for our stroke members. Please call the other centres for their opening hours.

Society of Disabled Persons Penang

Society of the Disabled Persons Penang (SDPP) is a self-help organization run by disabled persons. They are a multi-ethnic, multi-religion group, with strong representation from disabled women. They believe in rights and not charity. They want dignity not sympathy.

Shuang Fu

The aim of Shuang Fu (Double Blessing) is to complement the efforts of the Government to enrich the lives of the disabled through training and building up their self confidence. Shuang Fu helps them to achieve a breakthrough in their lives by teaching a skill to enable them to have better job opportunities. With self-sufficiency and self-confidence, they would hopefully be re integrated into society.
To achieve optimum results, Shuang Fu has set up specific services such as physical training, job training, job placement and counseling without charge to the disabled and underprivileged. The Shuang Fu programmes are open to all, regardless of race or religion. Up to date, there are a total of 300 disabled involve in the service activities.

The 3 Main Directions for the Shuang Fu :
(1) Services (Occupational exploration, emotional counseling, leisure activities)
(2) Promotion (Social awareness , disabled self-reliant programme)
(3) Advocacy (enhance and improve the welfare of disabled persons)
